Moovbox M200 :: Dual WAN Mobile Broadband Gateway

The award-winning Moovbox M200 from Fleet Connect is the first fully ruggedised in-vehicle mobile broadband gateway that leverages multiple carrier networks to deliver Ethernet, Wi-Fi® and GPS on the move.

With the Moovbox M200 buses, coaches, taxis, trains and ferries can offer wireless Internet access anywhere there is high-speed mobile carrier coverage. The bulkhead-mounting M200 draws power from the vehicle's electrics system, and features external connectors for cabin-located Wi-Fi antenna and a glass or roof-mounted cellular and GPS antenna.

The Moovbox backhauls user traffic over a range of carrier-class technologies such as 3G UMTS/HSPA, FLASH-OFDM and WiMAX networks, supporting plug-and-play operation with PC data cards from operators worldwide including T-Mobile, Vodafone, Verizon, AT&T, Telstra, Optus and 3. The backhaul-agnostic Moovbox M200 supports two user-supplied WAN radios in PCMCIA or ExpressCard form factor. These radios operate in tandem to provide concurrent backhaul connections that can be configured for failover between different carriers, or for independent connections dedicated to Ethernet and Wi-Fi interfaces respectively. The Moovbox modular WAN approach provides an in-field upgarde path to future WAN technologies such as LTE without the need to change the Moovbox hardware.

Integrated GPS

The Moovbox M200 has an integrated 12-channel GPS receiver with battery backup, providing real-time location reporting via the optional MoovManage Track service or any compatible third party tracking system. Whether you’re a transport operator wanting to add Wi-Fi and GPS tracking to your fleet, or a service provider interested in expanding Wi-Fi coverage to transportation, the Moovbox M200 is the perfect solution.

Ruggedised AP Delivering Wireless Internet Access on the Move

Traditional Wi-Fi access points need a fixed broadband connection such as ADSL to provide Internet connectivity. The Moovbox M200 uses cellular carrier data networks [1] to provide mobile Internet access at broadband speeds – supporting data, voice (VoIP) and video traffic. Even better, it works with any Wi-Fi equipped client device such as Intel Centrino® laptops, and handhelds such as the Apple iPhone, HP iPAQ, Nokia 770 or E62. The Moovbox M200 is housed within a rugged aluminium enclosure ensuring it can sustain in-vehicle operation in even the most demanding situations. The M200 has been tested and verified to meet the 2004/104/EC and CISPR-25 standards, and received E Mark certification for in-vehicle use.

Operator-Class Features for Session Management

The Moovbox M200 contains a commercial-grade access point featuring multiple SSIDs, 802.1q VLANs, captive portal, QoS, WISPr-compliant RADIUS authentication and billing, enabling it to be deployed in free or pay-per-use environments such as public transportation, or in local authority and emergency services vehicles where user authentication is essential. Security features include 802.11i-compliant AES and WPA, as well as NAT, DHCP and Layer 2 isolation to prevent users seeing each others devices on the Wi-Fi network. The Moovbox M200 can be remotely administered and updated via the secure MoovAdmin™ web interface and supports a variety of third party network monitoring tools via SNMP.

Inbound VPN Tunneling for Remote Access

The Moovbox M200 supports the Fleet Connect VPN tunneling implementation for remote access even while a vehicle is moving at high speed. The M200 features an integrated mobile VPN client that establishes and maintains a tunnel to a remote VPN server [2], and enables bidirectional communication over carrier networks even in cases where a static IP address is not available. Using this tunnel, the Moovbox and devices connected to its Ethernet port can be remotely accessed and controlled. For example, H.264 video from IP-CCTV cameras and DVRs can be securely streamed live where uplink bandwidth permits.
